Almez Fountain (Berja - Almeria)

Almez Fountain (Berja)

The Almez Fountain is located in the neighborhood of the Cerrillos. The water flows from three different places: from the main pillar, the ditch below it and from a lateral source and they are then joined in a single trough below. Due to their low mineral levels, these waters have diuretic properties.

The name of this fountain comes from a tree that is very common in Berja. Its wood was very useful for various agricultural tasks (for example, the sticks that were used to support the trellises).

This is a fountain of millenary origin. After some years, it was transformed into stonework with two pipes topped by a pediment. It still has some of its cobblestones and the stones that were used to clean the clothes.
