The greenway of Huercal-Overa
is a 13-kilometre route where you can go on foot or by bicycle. It's fascinating for its great beauty and for the history it allows you to discover in every kilometre.
The greenway of Huercal-Overa is located northeast of Almeria and the route becomes more impressive, since the route involves following the railway of Guadix-Almendricos, which connects the province of Almeria with Levante.
It is another unmissable tourist attraction of the Almeria province, where you can spend special family moments outdoors and enjoy the benefits offered by Mother Nature.
One of the great advantages of this route is that it is easily accessible; in fact, the first 3 kilometres have been designed with special directional indicators that advise blind people where the crossings are.
It also has informative billboards in different languages, such as Spanish, English and Braille, which are intended to inform visitors of the particulars of the different attractions that will be found along the way, as well as the services offered from that place.
It is, without a doubt, one of the most remarkable places in the province of Almeria, and we recommend you visit to get yourself energised and spend a pleasantly different type of weekend with friends or family.
The road starts very close to the Mediterranean Highway and, after starting your journey to the old station, you will find Gustavo Gillman Boves Square, dedicated to an engineer and photographer who carried out important works that facilitated the arrival of the railway to this area.
In this same place, you will come across two playgrounds that have beautiful gardens around them. If you want to pose for a photograph there, this would be a perfect place.
You will then see a lot of bridges that will undoubtedly leave you astonished and impressed. Some are made of metal and others of stone.
For many it is one of the favorite attractions of the Huercal-Overa greenway.
It is said that these bridge projects are the work of an engineer from France who was possibly linked to the creation of the Eiffel Tower; one of the most famous structures in the world.
This spectacular tour also offers tourists the opportunity to learn a little more about the local history and the trades to which its people dedicated themselves, since along its route, you can find an ancient mineral depot in the centre of Las Norias.
And, as if that were not enough, as you continue to move forward, you will find almond fields which are a representive symbol of the area. If you are lucky, you can see them while they are in their full flowering stage, which will without a doubt be a fascinating experience.
In addition, you will also find olive trees and many lettuce plantations, which are also important features of the area's vegetation.
We are sure that after finishing this 13-kilometre route you will be eager to repeat a visit to the impressive Huercal-Overa greenway, and once again enjoy the wonders it offers.
You cannot miss this!
