Saint Francis Convent (Cuevas del Almanzora - Almeria)

Saint Francis Convent (Cuevas del Almanzora)

It was built in the mid-17th century under the tutelage of the Marquis of Los Velez. This religious building served as a shelter for a community of Franciscans.

In 1842, the building became a secondary education centre, under the name College of the Immaculate Conception, and was attached to the Literary University of Granada. In 1878, the convent and the church were used by the Bishopric, beginning the installation in the academic premises of the Virgin of Carmel School.

For three decades, this place was abandoned. It was later restored to house the Municipal School of Music, Dance and Theatre and the Municipal Historical Archive since 2013.
