The Guardias Viejas Castle forms part of the defensive system of the El Ejido coast that Carlos III designed with the promulgation of the Regulation of 1764, which approved the erection of new buildings.

It is made up of a rectangular floor that surrounds a courtyard. This gives access to a semicircular battery guarded by two towers, and inside, there is a permanent exhibition of military equipment of the time.
Fortified Tower of Balerma
The fortified tower of Balerma is located next to the center of this locality, and was built in the middle of the 18th century. The tower forms part of the defensive system created by Carlos IIII to protect the coast of the old Kingdom of Granada from the threat of Berber pirates after their expulsion from the peninsula and the repopulation of the area by the Catholic Monarchs.
The structure of the tower is circular and of a medium height, which was accessed by a stone staircase and a drawbridge in 1803.

Archaeological Site of Ciavieja
The archaeological site of Ciavieja is located to the east of the municipality of El Ejido, and is divided into two areas to the north and south of El Treinta Avenue. The first area houses the majority of excavated remains, which reflect a chronological sequence of settlements in “El Cerrillo de Ciavieja”, ranging from prehistory to the Roman period.
The second area is located in the vicinity of the National Highway 340, covering an area of 361 meters and consists of four tombs dated between the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D., which were part of the necropolis of the Roman city of Murgi.

Additionally, the site has a dry dock of two hectares for boat servicing and dry stays, with capacity for 150 boats.

Among the rich vegetation that makes up the dunes, you can find native species adapted to the environment that is subject to water scarcity, high temperatures and salt concentration. Some of the species you can see are Phoenician juniper and lentisk.

Among the rich vegetation that makes up the dunes, you can find native species adapted to the environment that is subject to water scarcity, high temperatures and salt concentration. Some of the species you can see are Phoenician juniper and lentisk.
This fossil dune ecosystem, together with the ponds, salt marshes and saltworks of Cerrillos, harbors a large number of species, some of which are in danger of extinction. It is an ideal place for the practice of ornithology and the sighting of birds like Audouin's gulls, herons, avocets, flamingos, waders and ducks.
In this natural area is the Tower of Cerrillos: a coastal fortification dating from 1575. It will soon be restored and preserved thanks to an agreement between the municipalities of El Ejido and
Roquetas de Mar.
