The Castle of Guardias Viejas forms part of the defensive system of the El Ejido coast that Charles III designed with the promulgation of the Regulation of 1764, which approved the erection of new buildings.

Its construction began in 1769 and its reconstruction took place in 1817 after it was destroyed by the English in the War of Independence.

The architectural monument, declared as an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985 by the Junta de Andalucia. This is one of the five castles or fortifications found in El Ejido, along with Cerro Moriscas Tower, Square Tower, Balerma Tower and Los Bajos Tower.

It is made up of a rectangular floor that surrounds a courtyard. This gives access to a semicircular battery guarded by two towers, and inside, there is a permanent exhibition of military equipment of the time.
