Ciavieja Mosaic (El Ejido - Almeria)

Archaeological Site of Ciavieja (El Ejido)

The archaeological site of Ciavieja is located to the east of the municipality of El Ejido, and is divided into two areas to the north and south of El Treinta Avenue. The first area houses the majority of excavated remains, which reflect a chronological sequence of settlements in “El Cerrillo de Ciavieja”, ranging from prehistory to the Roman period.

The second area is located in the vicinity of the National Highway 340, covering an area of 361 meters and consists of four tombs dated between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, which were part of the necropolis of the Roman city of Murgi. The Roman mosaic found in 1984 is one of the greatest finds of archaeological value, dateable from the 3rd century AD.

This site was listed in the General Catalog of Andalusian Historical Heritage in 2017 as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and under the category of an of Archaeological Zone.
