The members of the ancient tribe of Berbers settled in the region in remote times and built numerous towers and fortifications to defend and delimit their territory. A few remain, constituting valuable samples of the architecture of the time. Archaeological sites dating back to 6,000 years old have been found in the areas surrounding the town. Most are vestiges of stone axes from ancient settlers who occupied the nearby caves.
At the entrance of the town, a large area of cobbled terrain, circular in shape, welcomes the visitor. It is the so-called “Era Grande”, an emblematic place of the town. Within the urban area, one can visit the Church of the Virgin of the Rosary, built in the 16th century. As in many other towns in the region, the red of the roofs and the white of the lime on the facades of the houses predominate in the narrow streets, giving the community its picturesque appearance.
It is a peaceful village where one can breathe pure mountain air, surrounded by spectacular views of the mountains in a pleasant, temperate climate. For lovers of hiking and trekking, it is ideal due to the number of mountain paths surrounding it and the impressive landscapes of the Sierra de los Filabres.
