The name Alsodux comes from the Arabic language. It is a name that has undergone several morphological transformations, including Sodu, Zodux and El Soduz, up to the current Alsodux, which derives from the word al-sadis, meaning six or sixth (possibly referring to its corresponding number among the ten settlements that made up the taha de Marchena). In the year 1489, after the surrender of Baza and the capitulation of Almeria, Alsodux ceased to be Muslim.

Alsodux bases its economy fundamentally on agriculture. During the time of the Muslim occupation, it produced and exported raisins, oil and silk. Later, it cultivated the Ohanes grape. However, today what are most produced are citrus, vegetables and fruit trees.

In the kitchens of this town, as in many other towns in the Alpujarra Almeriense, dishes such as migas, porridge and stews are prepared. The gastronomy uses the products of the garden: tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, beans and citrus fruits. Other recipes include fennel, peeled wheat and chard stews, rabbit fry and the “collejas” omelette (an edible wild plant).
