This is one of the towns that has best preserved its urban environment, with a clear Muslim influence. Its narrow streets, houses, churches and religious buildings are examples of the richness of its historical and cultural heritage.

In its surroundings are authentic archaeological treasures, such as the “Ambrosio” and “Los Letreros” caves, both declared historical heritage of humanity by UNESCO. Here you can admire cave paintings dating from remote prehistoric times.

Without a doubt, the Castle of Velez-Blanco is the main tourist attraction of the town and one of the best-preserved in the entire Almeria province. It dates from the 16th century and was built on the ruins of an old Muslim fortress.

Its natural environment is another tourist attraction, as the Sierra Maria-Los Velez routes surround it. On them, you can go hiking and mountain biking, or engage in other outdoor activities. The hill “El Gabar”, located a short distance away, is another of the favourite places for hikers and those who practice the sports activity of free flight. From its heights, you can enjoy impressive views of the valley and the mountains.
