La Mojonera is the result of a segregation of the municipality of Felix, which occurred at the end of the 20th century. The name of the town refers to the place where landmarks were erected to separate the two terms. It is believed that such divisors separated Dalias and Felix during the Nasrid period, territories that were protagonists of historical conflicts. In the year 1960, this municipality began the creation of its identity, which was consolidated in 1984 with segregation.

Currently, the inhabitants of this young town are engaged in agriculture, and the supply of services and tourism, which are the main sources of income. The main monument to visit is the Parochial Church, dating from the 20th century.

In 2017, this was the fifth municipality in terms of greenhouse extension in Almeria. In 2018, it was confirmed that it was the youngest population in the province, with an average age of 35.6 years; 25% of the population was under 25 years of age.
