Sierro is a municipality in the upper part of the Almanzora Valley, whose territory of 28 km² extends into the Sierra de los Filabres. It is the only town of Almeria that has a marked Arab origin and resembles the urban structures of the Alpujarra of Almeria, with impressive landscapes.

In its history, it has witnessed the settlement of Mozarabic and Moorish settlers who were in charge of defining the identity of the municipality, which has many similarities with other nearby municipalities in the region. Sierro is characterized by its white houses attached to the mountains, in a quiet and peaceful environment, ideal for relaxation.

Agriculture and livestock are practiced on a small scale, with the majority being family crops. Hams and sausages are also made in an artisanal way and are highly appreciated. Numerous routes depart from this town and run through various municipalities located in the surroundings. This makes it an ideal place to practice activities such as hiking and mountaineering.

From its castle, located in the highest part, and especially from the viewpoint, you can see spectacular views of the town and valley. The main popular festival of Sierro is the celebration of Moors and Christians. It represents the encounter between these two cultures and is a tradition that is part of the town’s cultural and historical heritage. The economy of the town depends mainly on marble, thanks to its proximity to Macael and Olula del Rio, as well as tourism, with various paths allowing you to get in touch with nature.
