Almeria: an authentic cinema set

Western town
Almeria is the birthplace of the Midwest cinema in Europe. Usually, the films that were made with Italian production were called "spaghetti westerns", whereas to the Spanish, they were called "chorizo westerns". Nevertheless with time, the term "spaghetti western" was coined for the films of this type that were made outside the United States, on European soil, and the Tabernas Desert was the favourite setting to make cowboy films like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars or Death Has a Price.

Almeria became known as European Hollywood and between the 60s, 70s and 80s, countless films were made, even great productions of other genres such as: Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, Patton, Conan the Barbarian and Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade. You can see the complete list of films filmed in Almeria in the following link: Wikipedia.

At present, video clips, commercials for television and various other series are filmed there, such as: Game of Thrones and Sea of Plastic.

There are now tour companies that organise tours that allow visitors to explore an authentic Midwestern Town, as many film sets that served as locations for the movies are still standing.
