In front of the Church of the Assumption, a monument was erected in the year 1950 in honour of D. Salvador Valera Parra, popularly known as the Cura Valera. He was born in Huercal-Overa in 1816, and due to his good works in the area, is in the process of beatification.
The work, which was ordered by agreement of the community in 1947, was in a state of disrepair until, in 2014, a restoration of the monument was carried out, with which it was returned to its original state.
The monumental work has an inscription on the base, which reads: "Raised by popular subscription", remembering that it is for a historical character and much appreciated in this town.
