In the eastern part of the Sierra de los Filabres sits the municipality of Tahal, with 95 km² of surface. It is fortunate to have natural water sources as well as pine and holm oak forests since it is placed near the Tabernas Desert. It is characterized by mild summers and strong winters.

It shows trace characteristic of the Neolithic; and during the Middle Ages created the Tahal State which had influence on the Reconquest of the territory. It belonged to different manors and throughout history it witnessed several repopulating processes that sought to keep the people from moving. At the moment, a mixture of tradition with traits of modernity are observed in the municipality.

This is a typical mountain town, nestled between mountain slopes, where its white houses with red roofs and steep streets stand out. For centuries, the main economic activities were wheat mills, pottery kilns, and looms, as well as agriculture to a lesser extent.

Hiking is one of the most appropriate activities to practice in these places, where there are several routes surrounded by almond trees, holm oaks and, in the higher parts, pine forests. As for the gastronomy of Tahal, it is typical of this region, with highlights including the gurullos with rabbit, the migas, the pumpkin pot, the turnip stew with fennel and the green bean casserole.
