The small municipality of Turrillas extends between the Sierra de los Filabres and the Sierra Alhamilla, where its Natural Area belongs to part of its territory. The village's architecture is traditionally preserved, while almond crops surround the urban center. Due to its location, Turrillas offers a spectacular view of the valley formed by Sierra Alhamilla, Sierra Nevada and the Tabernas desert, which can be enjoyed from its viewpoint, one of its main attractions.
The Muslim influence is evident in the layout of its narrow and zigzagging streets, which together with its whitewashed houses with red roofs decorated with abundant flowers, make this town a picturesque place. Turrillas is an ideal place from which excursions through the mountains can be organized, as it has multiple trails that invite you to practice this activity and thus enjoy its spectacular mountain environment. One of the routes preferred by mountaineers is the one that leads to the Colativi peak, the highest with an altitude of 1,387 meters above sea level.
Numerous vestiges of its past as a mining town are preserved, which tell us about a time when the town experienced a great commercial boom. It has a wide gastronomy, with typical dishes including the migas, the sausages of the region, the pot of wheat, the stew and the rice with rabbit.
