At the foot of Sierra Alhamilla stands the territory of Pechina. The bank of the Andarax river extends over a large part of its borders. This municipality retains numerous remains of the Arab community that lived there and it has a rich cultural history. Its geography is full of landscapes that everyone who visits falls in love with. Here you can see the countryside that ranges from arid semi-desert areas to the mountains and the fertile plain of the river, which is a kind of natural oasis. It shows such greatness that it has earned an honourable role in the film and advertising industry.

The Pechina Valley was one of the entrance doors for the Mediterranean, Roman and Arab cultures to Spain. The influence of all these cultures has strongly marked its identity as a region and continues until today. In fact, it is often said that Pechina was Muslim, Moorish and Christian, successively, so its roots and traditions are very deep and diverse, and come from very remote times. Pechina was the old Bayyana mentioned by the geographers and Arab historians, the origin and mother of the city of Almeria.

Among the natural attractions of the region are the thermal waters of the Sierra Alhamilla spring, of great fame for the quality of its bicarbonate-calcium waters, and very visited by those who seek their health benefits.
